Hyperdocs to promote student agency

I’ve recently been using hyperdocs as a form of choice with my stage 1 students for menuboard tasks. Students log into a chromebook or iPad and choose an activity to complete. Not only does this give students a sense of agency in their learning, it hopefully allows them to choose skills they need to work on. Students are given an over supply of options to allow for a wide range of choices.

While this is definitely still a work in progress with students achieving outcomes to a high quality and not getting distracted, students are definitely enjoying the range of activities. I imagine the blog I write about hyperdocs later in the term will be a lot more developed.

Three applications that you should try out from my week 1 and 2 hyperdoc:

Flip Grid – This is a new one for my but students record 90 second videos on a topic of choice. This week we have used them for a speaking and listening task based on nursery rhymes.

Padlet – We are focusing on summarising as a skill and this allows students to use a message board to post short posts about a book they are reading. While most of my students are still recounting it’s a good tool to get them used to writing in a short word count. Screen Shot 2018-08-02 at 7.40.01 pm.png

Pobble – This website gives you a fresh creative writing stimulus daily. It also has some activities to match if you were teaching it as a guided or modelled writing session.
